Tea is the world’s most desirable leaf and China’s longest-guarded secret, and in enjoyment and connoisseurship, it might be more nuanced and complicated than wine. Join China Sichuan and food writers Blanca Valencia and Mei Chin for a sampling of six of tea’s most prized and iconic varietals, from the delicate, imperially-commissioned Longjing and the richly flavored, widely coveted Da Hong Pao, to newer arrivals like Moonlight White, whose leaves are dried hidden away from the sun.

We will talk terroir and the various ways of brewing and serving, while exploring some of tea’s history, a fascinating tale of poets, monks, concubines, and spies. Finally, because every great tea deserves delicious food, we will discuss pairings, with a menu of savoury and sweet bites especially created for the evening.
