On behalf of all the team at China Sichuan, we want to wish our American friends and customers a very Happy Fourth of July…

Did you know it was John Adams, American second President, who in 1777, to celebrate the USA’s first birthday, said America’s Independence Day should be celebrated “with Pomp and Parade, with Shows, Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfires and Illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other from this Time forward forever more.” Because of this, the nights of Boston and Philadelphia’s first Fourth of July were lit with fireworks displays.

But it was around one thousand years earlier that the first fireworks lid the skies. The earliest documentation of fireworks dates back to 7th century China where fireworks were used to accompany many festivities. Fireworks are a part of the culture of Chinese people who originally believed that the fireworks could expel evil spirits and bring about luck and happiness. In China, pyrotechnicians were respected for their knowledge of complex techniques in mounting firework displays until the middle of the 12th century when the knowledge of gunpowder was finally brought by the Arabs to the rest of the world.
